Atlanta Braves pound San Diego Padres 6-1 as Dan Uggla hits three-run home run - MLB Update
Second baseman Dan Uggla storms the Atlanta Braves into the lead as they beat the San Diego Padres 6-1 at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on August 15, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
It took just two innings for Braves to earn the triumph. As their starter Paul Maholm breezed through innings, it was only a matter of time when a couple of runs from them will make it extremely tough for the Padres to win.
Therefore, as soon as Uggla managed a three run homer in the third, it became clear that the Padres will not find it easy to fight back. It was more so in light of the fact that the Braves possessed quality hurlers for throwing the penultimate innings.
Their relief pitchers are renowned for throwing scoreless innings later in the game.
Meanwhile, Maholm was terrific on the mound. He drew seven strike-outs and gave up one run as he recorded his 11th win of the season. Furthermore, he completed seven innings on Wednesday.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez maintains that Uggla has an ideal opportunity to use his current momentum to keep striking hits in the crucial games ahead in the season.
"We saw it last year," Gonzalez said. "This is a good time for him to get hot and drive in some runs."
Uggla went through a decline earlier before he had one good game, which triggered a massive turnaround from his part. The game on Wednesday was just the continuation of his tremendous shows on the plate in the last few matches.
Meanwhile, Uggla explains what making a huge offensive contribution for the team means to him.
"I'm getting some hits, driving some runners in and scoring some runs," Uggla said. "That's when you know you're getting back on track when you're creating some run production. That's the only thing I really care about, scoring runs and driving in runs."
More than the victory, the fact Atlanta saw the starter Maholm pitching quality throws in the match spell great positives for the team for upcoming games.
The Braves' starting pitchers are more likely to cause their decline, in case they experience anything like this down the line. Therefore, they will be hoping to witness the rest of their hurlers on the rotation taking inspiration from Maholm and putting
up terrific shows on the mound.
