Atlanta Braves record 10-5 win against New York Yankees as Jason Heyward strikes two homers - MLB
Left fielder Martin Prado and right fielder Jason Heyward spearhead the Atlanta Braves in their 10-5 victory against the New York Yankees on June 20, 2012 at Yankee Stadium, New York, NY in third game of the three match series.
Either Braves’ offence remains quiet for the whole game or it shows some all-out dominance. This has been its hallmark since start of the season.
There were number of games, which witnessed bulk of the line-up flying homers and routing opponents. At the same time, in sharp contrast, right in the next match their offence performed poorly yet was able to pick it up a notch.
Game was another reflection of instant rampage the Braves can unleash. As they struck five home-runs, whatever attempt the Yankees made to bounce back into the game was short of taking the team home.
Jason Heyward was the stand-out performer. Getting two hits in four at-bats, he contributed three RBIs. Two home-runs he struck took the game away from the Yankees.
Similarly, Martin Prado made three hits in five at-bats, while adding two RBIs. With this, he takes his slugging percentage to .460.
Catcher Brian McCann played as a designated hitter. Far from showing the slugging mastery he boasts, he wasted five at-bats.
Tommy Hanson started for the Braves. Five innings he pitched cost four runs as he struck-out five, while being hammered four home-runs.
Strong bullpen gave the Braves an edge. The Yankees most of the time use relievers to record victory by slamming them big hits. However against the Braves’ relievers, they failed to draw desired result.
Kris Medlen did the closing job. By finishing the ninth scoreless, he kept the Yankees from going on a last inning run-spree.
Toppling such a formidable side in the series is a tremendous achievement for the Braves. After being defeated in number of games earlier, their confidence was falling.
As they have gained momentum now, they will be showing drastic improvements in upcoming games.
Only area they potentially can be betrayed by is their starting pitchers. With Brandon Beachy out from the season, they will want their existing starters to fill the void, which has been created by his absence.
