Atlanta Braves’ right fielder Jason Heyward strains hamstring against Cincinnati Reds – MLB news
Atlanta Braves’ right fielder Jason Heyward survived a bit of a scare against Cincinnati Reds when he strained his right hamstring making a dash from the third base from the first. Apparently, he seems to be fine as no tear or muscle pull has taken place.
The 23-year-old got the strain in the second innings of the ballgame. He said that he just felt his hamstring getting tight and the pain kept on increasing. As Jason slid to reach the base safely, the pain got worse.
“A step and a half before I went to slide, I felt something sore first, then it got a little tight,” Heyward said. “No pops, no pulls, tears, nothing, but it just got painful, and I went down and it was more painful.”
Jason did not want to hold the game as his team was building some momentum and got off the field as quickly as possible. However, once he got off the field, the adrenaline went away and the soreness in the hamstring came back.
Heyward has had a decent season thus far with a .225 batting average and a .323 on-base percentage. He has hit seven home-runs and has batted in 21 runs. He has maintained a perfect 1.000 record as an outfielder which is pretty amazing as well.
The right fielder said that another evaluation is due tomorrow; however, he does not feel that he will end up at the disabled list for the strain. He knows that since no serious damage was done, he should remain fit.
“We'll evaluate again tomorrow, of course, but right now, I don't think it'll be DL,” Heyward said. “The fact that nothing's torn, nothing's pulled, I think it'll be good to just have some rest.”
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez was happy that Heyward was able to walk off the field which is always a good sign. However, he said that his exact state will be known on Friday when he gets re-evaluated before the game.
Jason Heyward appears to be fine from the look of things. He may miss a game or two but it should be all the time away from the game he should have unless something drastically changes overnight.
