Atlanta Braves rout Miami Marlins 8-2 as they conclude series with a sweep - MLB Update
The Atlanta Braves deliver a thumping sweep to the Miami Marlins, beating them 8-2 in the third game of the three match series, as starter Mike Minor throws five quality innings at Marlins Park, Miami on June 7, 2012.
Minor struck-out four and gave up one home-run as he allowed five walks. The Marlins were unable to capitalise on opportunities he provided.
All the runs the Braves’ pitchers conceded were in the form of home-runs.
Four home-runs the Braves' offence struck reinforced the notion of powerful hitting they are known for. With highest number of scores made in National League East Division, the Braves are heading to right direction in the season.
First four innings were without any run.
Braves accumulated most of their runs from relievers. In a move to draw maximum number of runs, they pounced upon relief pitcher Steve Cishek in seventh. From the one inning Cishek threw, two runs were grabbed.
Despite maintaining lead, hunger for runs by the Braves did not disappear. Edward Mujica, who came to pitch the ninth, was not allowed a safe passage. As the Braves fetched three runs from his pitches, their lead substantiated.
While the Marlins’ new ballpark was being inaugurated, vast area it was spread over was being considered a bit unfair for hitters. Even strongest of the hits are likely to fall short of the target.
What however was seen on Thursday, with six home-runs coming in the game, was the stark negation of those notions.
Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez calls the park as equally good for both, pitchers and hitters.
''It's a fair ballpark,'' Gonzalez said. ''You've got to hit it to get it out. It's a lot better than playing some of the other places where if you bump it forward in the air, you're holding your breath.''
Giancarlo Stanton, a right fielder for the Marlins, was one of those players who managed home run in the game. He spoke about how they were defeated by the Braves.
''They came in and whipped our butts in three games,'' Stanton said. ''It's not like we're going downhill from here. A little slip-up. Ain't no problem.''
Sweep will lift confidence of the whole team. It will help the Braves come out better in the next games. Keeping the momentum intact is going to be decisive for them in the season.
