Atlanta Braves rout San Francisco Giants 7-1 as Freddie Freeman and Jason Heyward shine-MLB Update
First baseman Freddie Freeman and right-fielder Jason Heyward shine as the Atlanta Braves humiliate the San Francisco Giants 7-1 at AT&T Park, San Francisco, California in the last game of the four match series on August 26, 2012.
It was not for the first time that Atlanta’s offence pounded the pitchers and posted a substantial total just to make it extremely difficult for the opposition to come back into the game. Right in the first inning the Braves rose to a two-run lead and by
the time they strengthened it with one run in the fourth and the two run in the sixth, the task became even harder for the Giants.
Braves’ starter Tim Hudson took advantage of the early momentum offered by the offence to the team. He completed seven innings and allowed just one run. He yielded five hits and struck-out three. It was his 13th win of the season.
It was another game in which Hudson was lucky in earning support from the offence. Most of the matches that Hudson has started have seen the Braves’ offence striking valuable hits and providing sufficient run-support.
Hudson acknowledges the importance of the early momentum which the Braves enjoyed and how it helped the team win the game eventually.
"We were fortunate to get a couple of runs early and I was able to throw strikes," Hudson said. "You don't exactly see very well from a hitter's point of view and you have to pound the zone."
Meanwhile, as the season enters into a crucial stage, the likes of Heyward and Freeman are reaching their prime form, which is a positive sign for the Braves. In the last few games the kind of slugging mastery that Heyward has shown if he can continue performing
in the same way he can turn out to be extremely useful during the post-season.
On Sunday, he slammed two hits in five at-bats. Apart from him, the catcher Brian McCann finally begins striking hits for the team. He went 3-for-4 in the match as he improves his batting average.
As the series has completed now, the Braves will be looking to take positives out of it and use them for improving further in the season.
