Atlanta Braves rout San Francisco Giants 7-3 as Jason Heyward strikes three-run homer-MLB Update
Right fielder, Jason Heyward’s three-run homer in the third helps the Atlanta Braves rout the San Francisco Giants 7-3 on August 25, 2012 at AT&T Park, San Francisco, California in the third game of the four match series.
Braves struck 11 hits on Saturday which reflects that their offence was at its best. Heyward did the early damage. Building on the momentum initiated by him the rest of the team kept slamming hits and in turn making it difficult for the Giants to bounce
back.
By the time Atlanta managed three run lead, Giants attempted to fight back and posted three runs in a span of three innings. However the fact that the Braves connected productive hits late in the innings and scored runs rendered their efforts insignificant.
Other than Heyward, the centre-fielder Michael Bourn made a valuable contribution offensively. He struck two hits in four at-bats and added two RBIs.
Braves’ starter Mike Minor was fortunate as he received immense support from the offence on his way to recording seventh win of the season. He completed little more than six innings and leaked three runs while striking-out five.
Meanwhile, Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez is jubilant and in particular he is impressed by the way Minor kept Giants from experiencing any run-rampage. Minor escaped the pressure cooker successfully.
"We had a good approach," Gonzalez said. "I was ecstatic about Minor's performance. He minimized the damage and was dominant."
Heyward talked about his splendid outing on Saturday. Against the quality pitching staff of the Giants, he had to be attentive for every at-bat. He will be looking to keep his top-notch form afloat in the upcoming games.
"The crowd always keeps you on your toes here and it's a good environment to play in," Heyward said. "They're always here, it's a good team and they have good pitching, so you have to focus every at-bat."
Getting the pitchers and the relievers perform well is a healthy sign for the Braves before the start of the post-season. Only thing the management will be hoping for is consistency in the performance of the players.
