Atlanta Braves rout St. Louis Cardinals 7-4 as Jason Heyward contributes three RBIs - MLB Update
Right fielder, Jason Heyward creates a boon for the base-runners as the Atlanta Braves defeat St. Louis Cardinals 7-4 in third game of three-match series at Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri on May 13, 2012.
Starter Tommy Hanson threw five innings and struck out nine, while giving up one home run for the Braves.
The inning in which Hanson was roughed up was an exception in an overall terrific time on the mound.
"I felt good with everything and for the most part did a good job of locating," Hanson said. "Nah, I didn't get tired. But I just didn't make quality pitches that inning."
While both sides recorded 10 hits, the Braves’ ability to capitalise on bases-loaded situation made the difference.
Offence-led dominance continues by the Braves. Following two scoreless innings, third inning saw the Braves surging to three runs lead.
While the Cardinals did manage to reply, seven runs by the Braves proved too much for them to chase down.
In an elusive entry in the line-up, third-baseman Chipper Jones drew one walk and did not hit in one at-bat.
As regard to his time in St. Louis, Jones expressed his gratitude to the love he receives from there. Praising a positive attitude of the fans, Jones discussed that irrespective of the affiliations, fans at this place regard good baseball.
"I've always enjoyed coming here and the fan base in St. Louis is part of that," Jones said. "You can have an opposing player hit three home runs against the Cardinals and these fans will give him an ovation for a job well done."
Defeating the last year World-Championship winner speaks of how far the Braves as a club have transformed.
Their hitters are turning out to be among the best and their pitchers are supporting them on right moments. Certainly, this is an ideal time for the Braves to launch their progress to somewhere big.
Cardinals’ starter Lance Lynn pitched one more inning than Hanson and struck out seven, while conceding three runs.
Only thing the Braves have not seen yet is finding their starters throwing maximum number of innings from the mound.
Although their relievers have been acceptable, this remains their loophole. It can potentially cause trouble for the club. One will hope that the manager is making due plans for this.
