Atlanta Braves see another 2-5 defeat against Washington Nationals - MLB Update
Coming off a consolation win against Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves had another poor show, falling to a 2-5 loss against Washington Nationals on March 6, at Champion Stadium, Kissimmee, Florida in their 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Grapefruit
contest.
Standing out from Nationals’ camp, Gio Gonzalez experienced a great time, hurling the pitches precisely at a fairly decent pace constantly touching the 90s. Never allowing Braves to free their arms, he conceded just one hit and got two strike-outs.
"I wanted to get started right off the bat," he said. "I was throwing hard and may have been a little overanxious, but I had a lot of fun out there."
Braves’ pitchers continue their ordinary performance as Kris Medlen another starter used in the game went for plenty. While continuing for two innings, he gave up three hits.
Perhaps one can trace his inability to control Nationals’ to the surgically repaired elbow he has just recovered from.
Even after the defeat, Braves must be pleased with the way their Spring Training debutant Freddie Freeman earned seven put-outs, albeit his hitting stood at just 0-for-2.
From being sailed through Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Oakland to Nationals now, Gonzalez looks extremely satisfied with his current club.
"Washington is where I want to be," Gonzalez said. "I still feel like I am fighting for a job in this rotation."
Bagging the praise of manager Davey Johnson, he is fixating himself on finding a job in the final rotation, something he can achieve if he comes up with more decent performances.
"I thought he looked great," Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson said. "He didn't look rusty at all. I had a pitch count on him and he reached it in the second inning, but he looked strong so I let him go."
After having a forgettable 2011 season, Jayson Werth added a homer to Nationals’ score, taking them past the Braves. The fact he went 1-for-2 and scored a home-run indicates not only he is connecting well but that he is making the most of it.
While Nationals have seen two wins and two losses up till now in Spring Training, Braves performance is deteriorating after every game and the team will hope to reverse this trend as the regular season starts.
