Atlanta Braves send Brandon Beachy to 15-day Disabled List - MLB Update
What apparently looks to be bone spurs in the right elbow of the starter Brandon Beachy can be anything ranging from ligament issue to a complete surgery that may end his season stint. On Saturday, during the game against the Baltimore Orioles, Beachy left
the mound after four innings. Jair Jurrjens has been called for replacement.
Until MRI report comes, nothing can be said with certainty as to how long Beachy can take to return to the season.
Injury is a big blow to Atlanta Braves, who suffer already the dearth of quality starters. A pitcher who can throw shut-out games and can win matches for the club on his own has dented the Braves’ progress heavily.
Not too long ago, he delivered a shut-out game and inspired praise from supporters and critics alike.
In a rotation that features pitchers like Tommy Hanson and Tim Hudson, Beachy was standing out. While on some occasions both Hanson and Hudson stuttered on the mound and leaked many runs, Beachy carried an uncanny run of dominance with regard to restricting
runs, right from the day one.
Beachy, along with the Washington Nationals’ starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg and New York Mets’ knuckler R.A Dickey is a part of contention for making it to the All-Star Game.
He may not have been as prolific as other two are in terms of drawing strike-outs, the fact he maintains lowest 2.00 Major League ERA gives him a special place.
Braves manager Fredi González is hopeful of his return at the earliest. He stated that the club will give him proper time for recovery.
"He's made some progress. We're going to give him a shot," Gonzalez said. "We feel like he's done it before. He's been an All-Star. ... He's done everything we've asked down there."
On the other hand, Beachy wants to believe that it will be bone spurs as opposed to anything bad with ligament.
"I'm hoping it's bone spurs still," Beachy said. "It's time to find out for sure, so that's what we're going to do."
Until he comes back, Braves will be short of a quality starter. Therefore, maintaining the same level of performance will be a challenge for the rest of the starters.
