Atlanta Braves shut-out 0-2 by Baltimore Orioles as Randall Delgado gives up two runs - MLB Update
Randall Delgado’s quality eight innings are unable to produce victory for the Atlanta Braves as they are shut-out 0-2 by the Baltimore Orioles in third game of the three match series at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on June 17, 2012.
Braves are heading in to a slump as their offence’s failure becomes routine. Unable to add a single run in the game, it was paralysed by the Orioles’ starter Wei-Yin Chen. He spent seven innings on the mound and was scoreless.
By the time Chen left the mound, Braves braced for an opportunity to repel run-drought. Much to their helplessness, Orioles’ relievers tricked them cheaply, ensuring that they did not add any score in the game.
Not just the Baltimore, the Braves also witnessed a great show from their starter. Despite the fact Delgado gave up two runs, eight innings he threw and just three hits he allowed explained the dominance he showed otherwise. He struck-out six on Sunday.
Becoming the real undoing, the Braves’ offence struck seven dead-rubber hits.
Third-baseman Chipper Jones floundered again. He went 0-for-3. Ever since he has returned to the season after rehabilitating from an injury, he has struggled to find composure. In contrast to belligerency he was showing in almost every game before the injury,
he is declining at the moment.
Jones discussed why batters failed on the plate.
"The only thing we need to avoid is pressing," Chipper Jones said."You'd still like to think you can go out there and score three runs no matter who's in the ballgame."
Rightly pointing out reason of the defeat, Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez commented that just like what happened against the New York Yankees, hitters are not making most of their hits. He elaborated that they brought more hits than Orioles and therefore
a little more effort will have got them past the opposition.
Putting aside all what have been experienced in the series, Braves will like to start a new journey from now onward and begin a long winning streak.
By working out issues with offence, they can go a long way in this regard. In particular, their ability to convert hits into runs will be extremely important.
