Atlanta Braves shut-out by Chicago Cubs 0-1 as their offence declines - MLB Update
Starter Tim Hudson gives up one run, as he records a loss in the Atlanta Braves’ 0-1 defeat against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois on May 9, 2012 in third game of three-match series.
Braves were shut-out in the game by quality pitchers of the Cubs. While managing four hits in 30 at-bats, their offence put in another poor show, in stark contrast to what it has been doing since start of the season.
Neither the centre-fielder Michael Bourn, nor Chipper Jones connected any hit in the game. Paul Maholm, who started for the Cubs, was too enigmatic in his throws. Even the likes of Dan Uggla and Jones struggled against him.
Until Hudson had not joined the club, the Braves’ offence confronted the danger of not getting support from their rotation. Now when he has come, offence is refusing to come up with proper run-support.
Hudson, while commenting on the game, expressed satisfaction over their overall performance. While acknowledging the perfection Maholm exhibited, he hinted that little support from their hitters will have turned the game to their favour.
"It's disappointing. I felt like we played a pretty good game. Obviously they had a guy over there who was throwing the ball pretty well, too," Hudson said. "He made some pitches. They had some breaks with some of their defensive alignments with some guys
on base. The ball was bouncing their way. Not a whole lot else you can say about it."
Hudson threw seven innings and kept the Cubs to just five hits. Only a single to first baseman, Bryan LaHair cost him one run that in the end proved adequate for the Cubs to defeat the Braves.
Relief pitcher, Kris Medlen threw a scoreless eighth inning, but to no avail.
Decline that the Braves’ offence has started to experience can reach its worst level if immediate boost is not forthcoming.
The fact it was a second consecutive defeat by the Braves, lengthening their losing streak from now onward will be the most undesirable eventuality.
While Hudson has tremendous career record and has the ability to pull off stunning wins for his side, he has yet to replicate it in the season. The Braves will want him to get to his best as soon as possible.
