Atlanta Braves snap New York Yankees winning streak with 4-3 win – MLB Update
Atlanta Braves snapped New York Yankees’ ten-game winning streak in an emphatic fashion as they secured a narrow 4-3 win at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Tuesday, June 19 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Although the Yankees lost on Tuesday evening, Manager Joe Girardi will be proud of what his team has managed to achieve over the last couple of weeks.
Yankees’ winning streak of ten games was their longest since May 2005. Considering the depth in their offence and defence, they are expected to bounce back strongly in the finale.
"They pitched really well and had some really good defense. That's kind of what we've been doing," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
"We wouldn't have gotten there if it wasn't for Jason Heyward," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
Atlanta Braves, on the other hand, will be delighted with their efforts in a game that was played on a very fighting note. After facing humiliation in series’ opener, they needed to turn things around to avoid sweep against their bitter rivals.
Rookie Andrelton Simmons played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he drove in two crucial runs for the Braves.
However, the star of the show was Jason Heyward who drove in a tie breaking run in the sixth inning. He also tripled and displayed some top quality defensive skills in the right field.
"You play third base, you know you're going to have the lowest-fielding percentage in the infield," Braves’ third baseman Chipper Jones said. "You get some rockets, some balls with topspin. The big thing on that play was the pick. Once I picked it, I could make the throw and Mac set a nice target."
Yankees’ starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda took his seventh loss of the season, giving a go ahead run to Heyward in the sixth.
His counterpart from Time Hudson secured his fifth win of the season, tossing up five solid innings. Four relievers combined to preserve the lead with Craig Kimbrel closing for his 20th NL save.
