Atlanta Braves star third baseman Chipper Jones will retire after this season – MLB News
The Atlanta Braves’ star and experienced third baseman Chipper Jones will be retting after this Major League Baseball season. A long time Major League professional, Jones has announced via his team management that this season will be his
last year with the Braves.
Jones, who has played his entire 18 years in the Braves franchise, now wants to leave the game on a good note. Jones told the media, “Never in my mid-20s would I have given myself a snowball's chance to be in camp and have a job at 40 years old, but I like
to think I've kept myself in pretty good shape over the years. The skills are still there to go out and get it done. I don't know for how much longer, but we're gonna ride it as long as we can.”
Chipper Jones, who known to be a team player since his start of the career with the Braves, now will leave the club in a city’s official send-off after 2012 season. Back in 2010, Jones had also once decided that he will retire after the season, but suddenly
changed his mind and signed an extension with the club. Back then and even now, Jones has decided to retire after this season, is solely due to his late injuries which caused his several peak years of play.
Now though he is alright and facing no issues with any injuries, he eventually made his mind and decided to leave the game. Jones, whose legacy as team and role player will always remain in the franchise, also will be remember as a loyal Braves’ player,
who never thought going anywhere else despite receiving many offers from the top teams.
During his entire career some top teams of both National and American League have persuaded him for hefty contract, but not only he rejected their offers, but he also never showed any interest to sign any contract with all those franchises. However, now
he is leaving the Braves after so many years’ of services, the Braves are planning to give him a memorable send off at the end of the season.
