Atlanta Braves successfully avoid arbitration hearings – MLB News
Where every Major League Baseball franchise is worried over the recent situation of arbitration issues, the Atlanta Braves are sitting pretty confident after signing reliever Eric O’Flaherty along with centre-fielder Michael Bourn and pitcher Jair Jurrjens avoiding arbitration hearings before spring training session.
Many believe that this is sole responsibility of any franchise to involve in arbitration talks with the players. The Braves not only showed a bigger heart but also given their all new players such good contracts that they did not object.
Earlier, the Braves' general manager Frank Wren also commented in the media clearing the situation with facts.
Wren said, “We’ve felt all winter long that we have a foundation of a very good team. And I think this is likely the team we not only got to spring training with but that we break camp with. We’ve talked about it we have a good team; if it performs to its capability we’ll be in the running and we can make adjustments as we go along. We plan to keep some margin to allow us to make some additions during the season, at the break. We feel like right where we want to be at this time of the year.”
Just two days ago, some inside MLB sources were reporting that the Los Angeles Dodgers are facing tough circumstances regarding arbitration issues and their hearing at the end of February.
The three Dodgers’ players including Clayton Kershaw, Andre Ethier and James Loney have already filed for arbitration talks. Though, these players are pretty much confident that their franchise will not drag them into long talks but they still seem cautious ahead of attending the hearings.
On the other hand, the Braves did a very good thing involving itself not to go further in arbitration talks. They now will get some extra time to train in the spring training camps without any extra pressure.
Apart from avoiding the hearings, the Braves' management is also looking in great shape to compete well in the next season. The entire management is giving extra confidence to their 40-man roster to play their best game whenever the next season starts.
