Atlanta Braves’ third baseman Chipper Jones will undergo knee procedure – MLB News
The Atlanta Braves’ third baseman Chipper Jones will undergo a knee procedure to repair a torn meniscus to be able to play in this year’s Major League Baseball regular season. Jones, who recently has decided to retire from the game, was injured during a practice session and now needs a serious surgery to repair torn meniscus.
Jones’ injury is occurring at very crucial stage of the year when all the Major League teams have finished 2012 Spring Training and now resting for week’s time and waiting for the Opening Day. The team doctors of the Braves later issued a statement and explained in the media that Jones’ surgery is scheduled on Monday and that surgery will be a serious one.
Braves management on the other hand is calm and not showing any worries instead they are very optimistic about the situation and telling in the media as their player is alright and hopefully will recovered well after the surgery. For Jones’ fans, it is difficult time. They know that last year also was a very bad year for Jones. He was injured and could not play his natural game. However, Jones is very tough kind of player. He was recovered well last year and possesses the ability to once again rise to the occasion.
In the meanwhile, Jones has said in the media that this year will be last year of his play. He has also mentioned in the media with great deal saying, “Never in my mid-20s would I have given myself a snowball's chance to be in camp and have a job at 40 years old, but I like to think I've kept myself in pretty good shape over the years. The skills are still there to go out and get it done. I don't know for how much longer, but we're gonna ride it as long as we can.”
On contrary to his retirement and latest injury, the baseball experts rank Jones one of the toughest professional baseball players. He has always played his top game and also considered one of the finest role player ever entered in the Major League Baseball.
