Atlanta Braves to retire John Smoltz No. 29 jersey – MLB News
The Atlanta Braves are preparing a ceremony in next couple of days in which they will be retiring their former superstar and ace pitcher John Smoltz’s No. 29 jersey in order to pay him respect after spending some 20 years in the South Atlanta baseball franchise.
“For this to happen is an incredible feeling that has yet to sink it…, This is just something that brings to full circle what it means to be in Atlanta and to have played all those years in the Atlanta Braves organization. I bleed the uniform that I wore and hope that I honored it the best way I could.” Smoltz said on Monday with great jubilation.
Smoltz added explaining his deep respect for the Braves management, “We had such an incredible run and relationship, I learned a whole heck of a lot, but I just had a great time. I can’t think of what life would have been like without those two, and really just every pitcher.”
Smoltz, who has also played for the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals in his illustrious 21-year career, is considered one of the greatest players ever entered in the world of baseball.
Talking about his career where one feels that he certainly played well balanced game throughout his career. His career 3.33 ERA still regards as one of the most consistent pitching percentage in the Major League Baseball. His total stats after playing some two decades of tremendous baseball remained consistent at 213-155 win loss record along with 3084 strikeouts. His career achievements are by far match with the best in the game.
Smoltz, an eight time All Star, a World Series Champion, Silver Slugger winner, National League Cy Young award holder, National League Championship Series Most Valuable Player award winner, Roberto Clemente award, Branch Rickey award and National League Rolaids Relief Man of the Year, was certainly a world class player and deserves to be in limelight where clubs appreciate their loyalty and tremendous set of skills. Currently active as a sportscaster, Smoltz is near to be inducted in Major League Hall of Fame.
