Atlanta Braves’ veteran slugger Chipper Jones trying hard to return from DL – MLB News
The Atlanta Braves’ veteran slugger and third baseman Chipper Jones is trying hard to make a potential comeback in this ongoing Major League Baseball season as he is currently on MLB’s disabled list due to a torn meniscus in his right knee.
Jones, who has also recently announced that he will be leaving the game after this season, is still to recover from the late right knee injury he endured at the end of last season’s regular competitions.
Jones said, “If I’m ready I want to come off, plain and simple, we talked about it a little. Even if I don’t feel like I can play nine innings of defense, I can still come off the bench and pinch-hit late if need be. But we’ll just have to wait and see.”
He added, “As I sit here right now, I’m not ready. But four days from now [on Tuesday] I could be, and I’m going to shoot for that 15 days, being ready. And if I’m not I’ve got a couple of more days until opening day [April 13 home opener].”
Jones is one of those players who are known for their loyalty to a certain club or franchise. Jones never played elsewhere except for the Atlanta Braves.
In-spite-of being offered by many clubs including the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks, but not only he refused all these offers and remained in the Braves franchise, he also publically
announced that he will not play for any other franchise in his career.
While many criticized this laid back attitude of Jones, but many were persistent to say that Jones is right on his stance as he wanted to remain loyal to that very club where he started his career.
When evaluating his performance, experts say, a player whose batting average is .304 along with 454 home runs, 1561 RBIs and .402 OBP, certainly qualifies for a champion individual.
In the meanwhile Jones’ arrival in the regulars will be a healthy sign for the Braves franchise and his active role in the game will certainly provide the slight consistency into Atlanta Braves’ roster as well.
