Atlanta Braves’ veteran third-baseman Chipper Jones confident ahead of next big event
The Atlanta Braves veteran ace third-baseman Chipper Jones arrived at training facility with his other team-mates in a very light mood on Thursday as he is also considered one of the Braves’ fewest players, who always finds witty things out of even sober issues.
Recently he arrived in Arizona to attend this year’s Spring Training with the Braves showing his determination in the practice session. Several reporters were also there who asked many questions from Jones about his next season’s preparations and most importantly about the late comments of his team-mates on his weight gain issues in the offseason.
Jones not only replied with total confidence, but also gave answers with humour on these comments of his team-mates about his weight. “I’m also fat now, from what I hear,” Jones said, smiling as he winced while taking his jersey over his sunburned arms. “I’m a little worried, this is the first time I’ve ever been called fat.”
Chipper is a talented player and knows his game pretty well. Overcoming extra weight is not an issue for Jones, but he remained extremely witty about his overweight body during the conversation with the reporters.
“Thing is, I’m seven pounds lighter than I’ve ever been in camp before, and now I’m fat,” Jones said. “I weigh 226, 227. Usually I’m 235. Mac’s so happy now for me, because [at Turner Field] every time that little kid from ‘Sandlot’ comes on [the video board] before we start the game – ‘play ball!’ – I say ‘Hey, Mac!’ That little chubby kid.”
Apart from Jones’ witty nature, he is also a very good player. He has always played with full spirit in his 18-year professional baseball career achieving a batting average of .304 along with 453 home-runs, 1561 RBIs and .402 on base percentage. Last season, he went to achieve a batting average of .275 along with a .344 OBP. Lately, some experts have reported in the media that Jones is on right track as he is having less of a burden for the next season and taking lightly all the proceedings even his own fitness.
