Atlanta Braves wrap up 2-0 win against Tampa Bay Rays as Tim Hudson produces a gem - MLB Update

Tim Hudson gets to his groove as he throws a near perfect spell of little more than seven innings and helps the Atlanta Braves win 2-0 against Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida on May 20, 2012 in third match of the three-match series.
Until the start of inter-league games, the Braves were lifted by their offence largely. While performance of the offence is nearly the same, pitchers have improved drastically ever since beginning of inter-league matches.
Not long ago, Brandon Beachy threw a gem and ended up pitching a shut-out game, giving way to debate about a potential role he can play for the Braves in the season.
In continuance of the same, Tim Hudson, who perhaps took serious inspiration from Beachy, followed with nearly similar numbers on Sunday. He did not gave up any runs and struck-out three, while being hit four times during his time on the mound.
Hudson talked of David Price, Rays’ starter. Acknowledging his great performance in the season, he said, it was one of the few games he found little support from offence. He suffered the loss as a result, he stated.
''He's been good all year, and his whole career,'' Hudson said. ''You knew runs were going to be tough to come by. That two-run lead felt like it was an eight-run lead because you didn't expect to get a whole lot today.''
Relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel continues playing role of a genuine rescuer late in the innings.
It was his 13th save of the season, something that shows the role he has been playing in protecting starters.
Fredi Gonzalez, the Braves’ manager was fascinated by the way the eighth inning panned out. He termed it as one of the rarest happenings in the baseball.
'I don't think I've ever seen an inning in the major leagues end the way that inning ended, but we'll take it,'' Gonzalez said. ''We won't give it back.''
Taking first position on the Division table is one thing, maintaining it throughout the season is another.
With consistency in performance, in particular from their rotation, the Braves certainly can be successful in this regard. They will be looking to carry their momentum forward in the games ahead.
