Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever win – WNBA Roundup June 21, 2011- Part 1

On Tuesday, five games took place in WNBA. Here are the highlights of those games:
Atlanta Dream 71 - Chicago Sky 68
At Philips Arena, Angel McCoughtry had a team-high 14 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two blocks as Atlanta Dream knocked out Chicago Sky 71-68 and snapped their two-game losing streak.
Erika de Souza added 12 points and five rebounds while Lindsey Harding ended the night with 11 points and six assists, adding four of her points in the crucial last minute of the game. Iziane Castro Marques chipped in with 10 points,
three rebounds and two assists in Atlanta’s second win of the current season.
Atlanta played the game without their second leading scorer Sancho Lyttle, who missed the previous three games of the season as she is representing Spain in an Olympic qualifying tournament.
The league’s second leading scorer and the centre for Chicago, Sylvia Fowles did not play well in the first three quarters of the game, scoring just eight points. However, she got her shooting touch back in the last quarter and
ended with a game-high 21 points and four rebounds in the loss. Tamera Young came off the bench with 14 points and four rebounds while Michelle Snow grabbed the game’s highest 12 rebounds in the second straight defeat of Sky.
The Dream played with intensity right from the word go and limited the visiting team to just 31 points in the first half of the game, taking a 12-point lead in the process. Sky however came back in the game in the third quarter
and outscored Atlanta 18-8, cutting the deficit to two points, 51-49, at the end of the quarter.
Chicago then stepped up the pressure early in the fourth and converted their deficit into a 64-61 lead with 03:26 remaining. However, Dream outplayed the Sky 10-4 in the last three minutes of the game to seal the victory.
Indiana Fever 89 - Washington Mystics 80
Shavonte Zellous scored a season-high 21 points and grabbed four rebounds as Indiana Fever beat the Washington Mystics 89-80 at Verizon Center. The victory snapped the two-game losing streak of Indiana.
Jessica Davenport and Briann January added 18 points each while Tamika Catchings finished with 15 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the victory. Crystal Langhorne of Washington topped all the scorers of the game with 23
points and nine rebounds. Matee Ajavon added 17 point, Karima Christmas had 13 points and Kelly Miller racked up 10 points in the fourth consecutive defeat of Washington.
The Mystics took a solid lead of 11 points in the first quarter, 24-13. Indiana bounced back and outscored Washington 29-15 in the second quarter but the Mystics still maintained a 42-39 lead at halftime. Dream however limited
the Mystics to 18 points in the third quarter and stretched their lead to six points, 63-57, heading into the fourth.
Washington reduced the deficit to three early in the fourth quarter but Indiana maintained their lead and went on an 8-4 run in the closing minutes of the game to walk away with their fourth victory of the current season.
