Atlanta Dream 76 - Tulsa Shock 68
Tulsa Shock grabbed just 38 rebounds on the night as compared to 33 by Atlanta Hawks. However, Atlanta shot 43.5 percent from the field, including 50 percent from three-point range, as compared to just 35.4 percent from the floor,
including 27.3 percent beyond the arc.
Angel McCoughtry scored 14 of her career-high 37 points in the first quarter as Atlanta carried a 20-12 lead into the second. Dream limited Tulsa to just 14 points in the second quarter and carried a 15-point advantage, 41-26,
at halftime.
Atlanta stretched their lead to 18 points with 01:30 to go in the third quarter, before Tulsa responded with 4-0 run to cut the margin to 14 points, 58-44.
Tulsa bounced back into the contest in the last quarter, cutting Atlanta’s lead to three, 66-63, with 03:42 remaining. However, Dream turned it on in the clutch and reeled off a 10-5 run to walk away with another close victory.
McCoughtry said at the end of victory, “Every win is big in this league for everybody.” “For us, this game gave us a little more confidence. The chemistry is coming.”
Seattle Storm 83 - Phoenix Mercury 77
On Tuesday night, Seattle Storm won their second consecutive game with an 83-77 win over the Phoenix Mercury at US Airways Center.
Sue Bird led Seattle with 18 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals. Forward Camille Little added 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for Storm, who have won two of their previous five games.
Diana Taurasi tallied a game-high 26 points on 9 for 15 shooting from the field and 5 for 6 from free throw line. Taurasi also contributed four assists, three steals and three rebounds in the loss. DeWanna Bonner and Candice Dupree
chipped in with 10 points each in Mercury’s second straight defeat.
Seattle shot 44.4 percent (32 for 72) from the field while Phoenix shot just 40 percent (26-65). Storm also outscored Mercury 44-30 in the points in the paint.
Phoenix got off to a terrific start and carried a 27-18 lead at the end of first quarter. Seattle outplayed Mercury 22-16 in the second quarter, but Phoenix still maintained a 43-40 lead at intermission.
Trailing by three points at halftime, Seattle came out strong in the third quarter and limited the hosts to 14 points only. Storm converted their first half deficit into a ten-point lead, 67-57, at the end of third period.
Phoenix began to gradually chip away at Seattle lead in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to two, 79-77, with just 20 ticks to go in the game. However, Tanisha Wright then pinned four consecutive free throws to seal the victory.
