Atlanta Dream crush Washington Mystics 93-68 – WNBA Recap
With five of their players in double scoring figures, Atlanta Dream spank the lowly Mystics by 25 points …..
On Sunday night, playing in front of a capacity crowd at the Philips Arena, Atlanta Dream did not need WNBA’s scoring leader Angel McCoughtry to score much as five other players made valid contributions and helped them get past
Washington Mystics 93-68.
With four of their five starters scoring in double figures, Atlanta never really looked in trouble. They were led by Lindsey Harding and Armintie Price, with both of them contributing 15 points each and shooting a combined 14 of
20 from the field.
Erika de Souza notched up a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while Tiffany Hayes pounded 10 points and handed out 7 assists. Cathrine Kraayeveld came off the bench to chip in with 11 points of her own.
From the other end, Crystal Langhorne and Noelle Quinn offered some resistance by getting 12 points each. They were helped out by Monique Currie and Jasmine Thomas, with both of them contributing 10 points.
Atlanta combined to dish out 29 assists in comparison to Washington’s 14. Good ball movement led to easy opportunities at the offensive end and Dream made the most of their chances by shooting the ball 58% from the field.
Atlanta came racing out of the blocks and held a 12-4 advantage early. They went on to take a 20-9 lead at one point in the opening quarter. However, a 6-2 run to close out, allowed Washington to make it 15-22 at the end of the
first.
A similar script was played out in the second with Atlanta opening up a double figure advantage courtesy of a 9-3 run early. They went on to dominate the rest of the proceedings this time though and another 13-0 capped off by a
deuce from Aneika Henry enabled them to take an ample 48-27 lead at the break.
The third quarter was the most competitive of the game with both teams getting a total of 20 points in the period. At the start, Washington offered valiant resistance as the put together a 7-2 run. But Atlanta were able to hold
on and closed out the period with an 8-2 run of their own.
Washington tried their best to cut the deficit down in the final quarter but whenever it looked like they were about to put together a strong run, a resilient Atlanta team powered their way back. Both sides kept their scoring tallies
alive in the period and even though Washington scored the last 5 points of the ball game, they were still trailing by 68-93 at the end.
