Atlanta Dream’s Angel McCoughtry and Minnesota Lynx’s Seimone Augustus named WNBA Players of the Week
Atlanta Dream’s Angel McCoughtry has been named as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the very first time this year. McCoughtry has been rewarded for her performances in the regular season games played from Monday, July
18 through Thursday, July 21.
The Western Conference weekly award has gone to Minnesota Lynx’ Seimone Augustus, a player who is very similar in her style of play to Angel.

In the games on last week’s schedule, McCoughtry was not only Dream’s best player, she emerged out as the East’s best. Averaging 24 points and four steals per game in two outings, she led Atlanta to a 2-0 week, helping the team
stay in the fifth position in the East after a poor 4-9 starting record.
McCoughtry has won the Player of the Week honours for the third time in her three seasons. The 6-foot-1player is averaging 17.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game so far in this season.
McCoughtry’s season-high 33
McCoughtry’s best performance of the week came against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, July 20. She scored a season-high 33 points and recorded three steals to help the Dream prevail 86-79 at Verizon Center. It was the first
road victory of Atlanta since June 14.
The 24-year-old also set season highs with 10 field goals, 11 free throws made in 17 attempts. Additionally, she dished out three assists, grabbed three rebounds and blocked one shot. The player punctuated 20 of her points in the
first half as Atlanta carried one-point lead at halftime. She finished with a 10 for 18 shooting from the field and 11 for 17 from free throw line.
McCoughtry’s 15-point spurt
On July 19, All-Star McCoughtry totalled 15 points, a game-high five steals, three rebounds and two assists in the Dream’s 84-74 win over the current conference leader Indiana Fever.
Seimone Augustus
Seimone Augustus has been honoured with the title for the first time this season and fifth time in her six-season WNBA career. Augustus propelled the Lynx to a 1-0 record for the week by averaging a league high 25 points per game.
The 17-year-old ranked fifth in her conference in field goal percentage, shooting 11 for 15 from the field.
Augustus’ season-best 25
On July 20 at US Airways Center, Augustus notched up a season best 25 points in Minnesota’s 106-98 road-victory over the Phoenix Mercury. With this victory, the Mercury moved into first place in the West with a 10-4 record. In
addition to the 25-point performance, Augustus pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists in the game.
The largest cheer of the night came with 7:23 to go in the last quarter, when the shooting guard broke the record of Katie Smith’s all-time franchise record with 1,128th field goal of her career. She recorded a11 for 15 shooting
in 35-plus minutes. Augustus is averaging 15.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in this season.

Other players who were also nominated for the same title were Chicago Sky’s Epiphanny Prince, Connecticut Sun’s Renee Montgomery, Phoenix’s Penny Taylor and Washington’s Crystal Langhorne.
