Atlanta Dream’s Angel McCoughtry named Eastern Conference Player of the Week – WNBA Update
For the second straight time this season, Atlanta Dream’s Angel McCoughtry has been crowned as the Eastern Conference’s player of the week, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced on Monday.
McCoughtry excelled in the games played against the Tulsa Shock, Los Angeles Sparks and Connecticut Sun in the period from Monday, July 25 through Sunday, July 31. McCoughtry’s scoring, rebounding, assisting, stealing and shooting
percentage numbers were at the top in the East for the week. The 24-year-old averaged league-high 31.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.0 steals per game during the previous week to lead her team to a 2-1 record. She ended on a 57.2 percent shooting from
the field.
So far in this season, the University of Louisville product is second in the league with an average of 19.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.3 steals a game. This was fourth time in the phenomenal player’s three-year career
that she has received the honour for her team.

McCoughtry’s season-high vs. Tulsa Shock
On July 26 at BOK Center, McCoughtry opened up the week with her extraordinary performance that helped the Atlanta Dream seal a close, but brilliant victory.
She racked up a season-high 37 points as Atlanta shrugged off the slumping Tulsa Shock 76-68. The Fever forward also contributed four rebounds, three steals and two blocks in Atlanta’s fourth consecutive victory. She was in her
shooting zone on the night, shooting 11 for 22 from the field and 15 for 19 from free throw line. She pinned 4 free throws at the very crucial time when Tulsa found their way to cut their lead to just three, 66-63, with 02:57 to go in the game.
McCoughtry’s game-high vs. Los Angeles Sparks
Two days later, McCoughtry lit Atlanta up in their 89-80 victory against the Los Angeles Sparks at Philips Arena. The 5-foot-4 forward made life miserable for the visiting team, recording a double-double with a game high 22 points
and 11 rebounds. She also dished out a team high seven assists, stole the ball twice and blocked one shot in her 31 minutes of action. The player hit 9 for 20 from the floor and 4 for 7 from free throw line.
McCoughtry’s 36-point spurt vs. Connecticut Sun
McCoughtry did all she could in Dream’s 99-92 defeat against the Connecticut Sun on July 31. She came off the bench with a game best 36 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, four rebounds and three assists. She went 14 for
27 from the field and pinned 7 of 9 free throws in the losing effort.
