Atlanta Falcons DC Mike Nolan praises LB Sean Weatherspoon - NFL News
In what essentially ended as a disappointing season for the Atlanta Falcons one factor stood out and that was the performances of linebacker, Sean Weatherspoon.
The linebacker was a physical presence in the Falcons defence and was one of their top performances as he put up statistics of 118 tackles and four sacks.
This however, is not his ceiling according to Falcons defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan who believes that the linebacker has a lot of room for improvement.
Speaking to the franchise’s official website on Monday, Nolan said that Weatherspoon is a good player but he can improve even further.
He also praised the player’s style of play and called it exciting.
"He's a good player now, but he could be a lot better than he is."
Adding further he said that there is no question that Weatherspoon can become even better this year.
"And he will be. No question, because he loves football and he's exciting to watch and he's a playmaker, for all those reasons. But he's done well, but he can still do a lot better."
Such high praise is deserved by the linebacker who became a stalwart in the Falcons defence as his performances improved with each passing game.
Nolan also went on to add that the 24-year-old is still learning the game.
"Primarily, what I see is a guy who just loves to play, but in the new system, he's still trying to learn the language and things like that, so there's some way to go. But he'll find it very friendly and I think he already does see, down the road, how exciting
it can be in this system, because a lot of guys have benefited from it."
The 2012 season will be a big year for Weatherspoon and he will be given even more responsibility in the upcoming season.
Atlanta fans will be hoping that Weatherspoon improves further in the upcoming season and helps the franchise once again qualify for the playoffs.
The franchise ended up with a 10-6 record last year and this time they are looking to perform even better.
To achieve that goal the linebacker’s contribution will be crucial.
