Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan concentrating on bulking up ahead of new season - NFL News
Atlanta Falcons are counting on quarterback, Matt Ryan to improve even further this offseason as they look to remove their playoff chokers tag in the upcoming 2012-13 season.
The Falcons have under coach, Mike Smith never made it past their first game in the playoffs and last season was no different as the team’s offence was held scoreless in a 24-2 defeat at the hands of eventual Super Bowl Champions, New York Giants in the
wild card round.
Matt Ryan is looking forward to get stronger and much better this year and in an interview with the Atlanta Journal Constitution said that he is concentrating in the weight room to deliver his best game in the upcoming season.
“Every year, I try and pick a couple of things that I’d like to do better. One of the things this year is getting in a little-bit better shape and better condition going into the season.”
Adding further he said.
"I've been working hard on that and getting with (director of athletic performance) Jeff Fish now that we're back to make sure that I'm ready to go. That's one of the things I've tried to figure out and analyze myself; how do I get myself to be playing my
very best, when your very best is needed. I'm still working on getting there."
Ryan is one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football Conference (NFC) but has struggled in the playoffs.
The quarterback ended last season throwing for 29 touchdowns as he covered a franchise record 4,177 yards last season even though coach Smith usually opts for the run-first offensive style.
Ryan also completed a respectable 61.3% of his passes as he led the Falcons to a 10-6 regular season record and a berth in the playoff wild card rounds.
This was the third time in four seasons under Smith that the Falcons had made it to the playoffs but once again their choking habit in big games came to haunt them.
With Ryan improving his physical strength and skills in the current offseason this could be the year that Atlanta fans finally see their team make a long run in the playoffs.
