Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan tried his hand at being a caddy at the Augusta National Masters - NFL News
Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Matt Ryan took some time off from concentrating on the football as he became a caddy for his friend Stewart Cink at the Augusta National Masters.
The tournament which was played last weekend featured some of the biggest names in golf and Ryan had some fun as he donned the white uniform of a caddy.
He helped Cink during the golfer’s participation in the Par 3 contest and even got to hit a shot at the ninth hole.
Speaking to Fox Sports South the quarterback was excited to come to the Masters.
"He reached out to me and asked if I would be willing to do it. I said, 'Are you crazy? Would I be willing to do it? Of course I'll do it.' "
Both he and Cink are good friends and meet up to play golf frequently.
This was Ryan’s first time at the Masters but he has been at the Augusta National golf course previously.
Cink said about having the Falcons quarterback with him.
“Normally my kids caddie. We see each other all the time and have played together once or twice. He's a good guy to be around, and I thought it would be fun. I also thought he would enjoy getting inside the ropes and seeing the crowds."
It did not take long for the watching crowd to recognise the Falcons quarterback and Ryan spent some time signing T-shirts and caps for the gathered crowd.
Cink gave Ryan the opportunity to hit his tee-shot at the ninth hole but the quarterback’s accuracy on the golf course is not the same as on the football field.
He missed the shot but his friend allowed him to putt the ball which he successfully accomplished.
"I hit a 52(-degree wedge) about 160 yards. I hit it way too far to the right. Luckily he still let me putt it and I got to redeem myself. I made the putt."
The Atlanta Falcons ended the 2011-12 regular season going 10-6 but failed once again to move further than the wildcard round in the playoffs.
Ryan did not make a single scoring play in the wildcard game against New York Giants as the Falcons lost by 24-2.
