Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos look to continue unbeaten run in high profile encounter
The Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos will face each other in a high profile encounter on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Both teams came out with big wins in week 1 and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the 2012/13 season on Monday.
Atlanta Falcons put up a fine overall performance in week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs as they came out with a comfortable 40-24 victory.
Quarterback Matt Ryan delivered an exceptional performance against the Chiefs and will be looking to deliver more or less the same against the Broncos.
Ryan ended up with 299 yards passing with three touchdowns and one on the rush, with the Falcons completely dominating proceedings in offence.
Things will get tougher against the Broncos who boast one of the best defences in the National Football League (NFL) but they have the players that can deliver under pressure.
The running game will be a concern for Atlanta Falcons which was limited against the Chiefs.
Running back Michael Turner was limited to just 32 yards from 11 carries and he will look for more joy against Denver.
Centre Todd McClure in his post game interview said that the team was confident of delivering the goods against the Chiefs but did not expect things to be so easy.
"We felt like we had all the tools. We knew if we executed right, we could have that type of production. But going into the game, we probably didn't think it would be that easy or we'd put up that many points."
Denver Broncos on the other hand will be equally confident of performing against Atlanta.
Led by quarterback Peyton Manning the new look Broncos offence looks capable of big things this season.
Winning their opener against the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers will have boosted confidence sky-high in Denver and with Manning performing like he was never injured Denver will be ready for anything the Falcons throw at them.
In his first game since returning from a year out with injury, Manning delivered a performance that fully justified the Broncos faith in him.
The veteran quarterback threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns to lead his new team to a mass 31-19 win over the Steelers.
Broncos head coach John Fox lavished praise on Manning after the game and said:
"I've seen improvement every time he's gone out, going back to the beginning of preseason and even before that. Physically, mentally, him adjusting to new teammates, new coaches, I think he's been tremendous."
The quarterback’s arrival has also put new life into the Broncos receiver corps with wide receiver Demaryius Thomas thriving under the new pass-centric offence.
This will be a massive game with both teams boasting strong offences while the Broncos defence is on paper at least better than Atlanta’s.
It is difficult to choose a winner amongst these two equally strong teams but Denver will likely have a slight advantage thanks to their star studded defence.
