Atlanta Falcons confident about beating Washington Redskins – NFL News
The undefeated Atlanta Falcons are hoping to get their fifth straight victory as they take on Washington Redskins this Sunday. However, there are some errors that the Falcons need to rectify and their coach Mike Smith knows what to do in this regard.
Falcons have defeated Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers to take lead in National Football Conference (NFC) South.
They have been consistent on offence, but defence has shown some signs of inconsistency and that could become their weak link against Redskins, who are 2-2, but have a very strong offence, which is led by rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3).
Falcons’ victory against Panthers came after a very close matchup and they also gave away many rushing yards. This might go against them as they face Redskins, who are one of the best rushing teams so far.
According to the details present on Falcons’ website, head coach Mike Smith said of their recent win and facing Redskins:
“I’m sure they’ll study the film and look at how Carolina was successful. I know that they’ve been doing some things very well through the first four games. We’re going to make sure that we’ve shored up the issues we had in giving up 200 yards rushing last week, that’s for sure. Then put our best foot forward in terms of preparing ourselves for this offence even though it’s similar there are a lot of differences in what they do.”
Redskins do not have a very solid defence and if Falcons are able to put a strong show against Washington, they can easily outscore their opponents.
That being said, it must also be noted that Redskins’ offence will try its best to extend playing drives and reach end zone or somewhere near it as much as possible.
So if Falcons maintain their strength on defence they have a strong chance of beating Redskins. They already have an edge over their divisional opponents Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-3), Panthers (1-3) and New Orleans Saints (0-4), and if they are able to further improve their record, a playoff berth will not be difficult to secure for them. Falcons can beat Redskins, but they must refrain from complacency.
