Atlanta Falcons face Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 of 2012 season – NFL Preview
An exciting contest is certainly on the cards as Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs show eagerness to perform better than last season to mark a positive start to the new season. Both sides will face each other on Sunday, September 09, at Arrowhead Stadium,
Kansas City.
Falcons look to further improve from last year in which they managed to finish the regular season 10-6 and qualified for the playoffs. There are not many analysts who argue that Falcons will again manage to reach the playoffs.
On the other hand, Chiefs have massively strengthened the roster this offseason, but apart from depth there is not much class on the roster to take the team to the playoffs.
The Falcons offence looks strong and will be the game-killer against Chiefs, who have a woeful defence.
The Chiefs defence looks a bit soft in a 3-4 formation as compared to the last season in which the overall defence was superb. They have drafted a couple of rookies, but they failed to live up to the expectation during the offseason and preseason.
The Chiefs offence will mainly depend on the output of their quarterback Matt Cassel, who will have to consistently perform throughout the entire season in order to give Chiefs any chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
For the first time, Chiefs offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will be against his former coaching mate, Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. Nolan believes it would be fascinating to face his friend. He said:
“Brian is a very intelligent and great football coach, He’s got a real good mind. He’s had very good mentors as far as football goes. He’s been on the offensive and defensive side of the football. Brian is one of the sharpest coaches that I’ve been around.”
Daboll, on the other hand, is aiming to produce a good show and prove a point to his new team that he can deliver even with such an average roster. According to
Atlanta Journal Constitution, Daboll said:
“I do think that players like to play for him because I think he tries to utilize all of the players’ strengths. I guess his biggest problem is who is he going to give the ball too next because I’m sure has a lot of guys who want the ball.”
The Falcons head coach is hoping for a good start to the season in which he seems to be in a do-or-die situation.
Falcons have good depth at cornerback and defensive end positions. When it comes to tight end, both the teams look to have some exciting talent.
Both Falcons and Chiefs have capable squads but it will be the Falcons offence that might have an edge in the game.
