Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith wants to end postseason disappointment - NFL News
Atlanta Falcons before the arrival of head coach, Mike Smith had been on a four-year playoff drought, however, Smith’s arrival in 2008 changed all that as the franchise has now surged to become one of the most difficult teams to beat.
The Falcons have had consecutive winning seasons throughout Smith’s tenure and have reached the playoffs in three of those seasons.
Even with all the success and a talented roster, the head coach has failed to replicate his regular season magic into results in the postseason.
Smith’s Falcons have failed to progress further than their first playoff game in each of the three times they made it to the postseason.
The head coach is 0-3 in the playoffs and is looking to improve on that statistic starting with the 2012-13 season.
Speaking in a radio interview Smith said according to SportsRadioInterviews.com.
"Well obviously we have to do it different than what we've done in the past,"
He continued further.
"We've been there, we just haven’t been very successful. So it starts with me in evaluating how I prepare our football team, or we as a coaching staff prepare our football team. And believe me, we've done some soul searching.”
He will have to drastically change his team’s preparations for the playoffs after last season’s performance.
The Falcons ended the regular season with a 10-6 record and faced the New York Giants in the playoff rounds.
Atlanta’s offence though looked completely out of its depth. Quarterback, Matt Ryan failed to make a single scoring play as the offence was held scoreless by the Giants who won the game 24-2 with the Falcons only points coming through a two-point safety
in the first quarter.
Smith went on to add.
“When you go to the places that we've been and not have the success that you want in those situations, it's tough. And I know everybody's disappointed, but nobody's more disappointed than I am -- I can assure you that."
The Falcons will have another opportunity to change things around this season and no one will be more motivated to get back into the playoffs and end their postseason losing streak than Smith.
