Atlanta Falcons look to continue unbeaten run against struggling New Orleans Saints - NFL Preview
One of the biggest rivalries in the National Football League (NFL) is set for its edition as the New Orleans Saints welcome the Atlanta Falcons to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday.
The Atlanta Falcons are undefeated this season heading into Sunday’s game while New Orleans suffered their worst start to the season with four consecutive defeats but have won three of their last four.
Atlanta has been the team setting the standards this year. With an 8-0 record and well ahead of all competition in the race for the NFC South division title the Falcons are playing some of their best football.
Quarterback Matt Ryan is playing amazingly well and will be l*****g his lips at the prospect of facing New Orleans league worst defence.
His receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones too have had a remarkable first half to the campaign helping the franchise join the elite club of 15 teams that have started the first half of the campaign with an 8-0 record since 1978.
With things going so well the Falcons will be looking to end their poor record against the Saints.
It has been rare to see Atlanta winning over the Saints and their quarterback Drew Brees since he joined the franchise but the Falcons have their best shot at a win this time around.
The Saints have been giving up at least 400 yards in each of their first eight games and are giving up an average of 471.3 passing yards.
With such a poor defensive record for the Saints it is no wonder that the Falcons are heavy favourites for the win.
However, the Saints will not give up easily.
Brees continues to remain one of the best performing quarterbacks this year even though his team has won just three games this year.
The quarterback is keeping the Saints offence ticking and if they can only plug the holes in their defence New Orleans have a shot at getting the win.
Brees has passed for 22 touchdowns and 2,549 yards this year and is continuing his astonishing 51-game streak of games in which he passed for at least a single touchdown.
The Saints also have rallied back from defeats winning three of their last four and last week trumped over the Philadelphia Eagles 28-13.
Speaking about keeping the winning momentum going Brees said:
"There are defining moments throughout a season. Big plays, big wins, that kind of bring you together and let you see a vision of what you can be, what you can accomplish. This is the type of momentum we want going into the second half of the season."
The Saints will have their work cut out against the unstoppable Falcons and it is hard to see anything other than an Atlanta victory in this game.
However, never count out surprises in a rivalry game.
