Atlanta Hawks cruise pass sluggish Charlotte Bobcats 113-90: NBA Recap
Atlanta Hawks brushed aside the struggling Charlotte Bobcats 113-90 at the Philips Arena Thursday night, handing them their 10th straight loss.
"I think we were able to keep executing. We didn't get complacent. I think normally when we get big leads; we tend to get complacent a little bit. Tonight, we were able to keep our foot on the gas." Josh Smith on taking advantage
early and then driving it home, he finished off with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the Hawks.
Atlanta shot an impressive 57.3 percent from the floor and went 14 of 29 from three point range. All 13 players in the Hawks camp got minutes on the court; Devin Harris led the pack with 20 points while Ivan Johnson came off the
bench to add 16 points and grab 8 rebounds.
The Hawks are coming into their groove and are now 12-3 since losing three of their first five games this season.
Gerald Henderson top scored for the Bobcats with 17 points, Ramon Sessions had 16 while Kemba Walker finished off with 13 points for the Bobcats, who are now 7-15 and with each passing day they resemble like the team that made
the league worst win ratio last year (7-59).
Hawks meant business right from the word go and opened the proceedings with a 10-3 run. Jeff Taylor scored a pair of free throws to make it 11-15 for the Bobcats but the Hawks were pulling ahead swiftly. Harris made a layup to
put Atlanta up 20-12 and Louis Williams nailed two back to back three pointers to push their lead to 26-14. Harris connected one from downtown and the Bobcats were trailing 19-30 by the end of the period.
Charlotte gave Hawks a lot of open spaces and they made full use by sinking in a number of three pointers in the period and a Harris shot from behind the arc put the Hawks up 45-28. Bobcats could not find an answer to such a fine
shooting performance and were trailing by 17 points at halftime.
Atlanta kicked off the second half with a 6 nil spurt to further cement their authority. Smith made a jumper to put the Hawks up 78-50, their biggest lead of the game. Bobcats responded with a 10-0 run to cut the deficit down to
60-78 but the Hawks were not to let go of their lead that easily. Ramon Sessions closed the period for the Bobcats with a three pointer to have them trailing by 17 points.
The Hawks were in cruise control mode during the last period;up 97-76 early in the quarter. The Bobcats did not look like threatening them at any point and succumbed to yet another listless loss.
