Atlanta Hawks are keen on bringing in David Blatt who is currently the head coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel .....
According to latest reports, the Atlanta Hawks are on the verge of bringing in one of the best coaches on the European circuit, David Blatt, to join Larry Drew’s staff for the coming season.
Blatt may not be a common household name but his credentials are plenty. He is currently the coach of the Israeli Champions, Maccabi Tel Aviv, and also coached the Russian team to a bronze medal finish at the 2012 London Olympics
during the summer.
Coming out of Princeton University, Blatt was part of the American team which won gold at the Maccabiah games. However, he decided to pursue his professional career in Europe shortly afterward – a circuit he has grown very fond
as a coach.
He has built a reputation of being one of the best coaches in Europe and has had a career successful enough for the NBA people to take notice. He is still to be part of a coaching team in NBA, however, that may not last any longer
as Hoopshype has reported that Atlanta Hawks are keeping a keen eye on the situation.
“The coach of Maccabi Tel Aviv and Russian National Basketball Team David Blatt may become the assistant coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Larry Drew has come to Israel today to watch and analyze Blatt’s work with Israel’s champions.”
But that is as far as it goes at the moment as there is no guarantee of the fact that Blatt will be coming over to the United States and leave his home in Israel. If the Hawks succeed in luring Blatt, it will prove to be a good
hiring as it gives them a genuinely good option to consider for the head coaching position in the future, especially considering the apparent hesitancy by their front office to offer Drew a long term contract.
The Hawks have been perennial playoff contenders for some time, but just can’t seem to make deep playoff runs. Under a new general manager in Ferry, they have taken quite a few bold decisions, and who knows Blatt might just be
the catalyst the Hawks need to finally go all the way in the Eastern Conference.
