Atlanta Hawks overcome Crawford’s triple-double to edge out Washington Wizards 100-96 in O.T – NBA Recap
Jordan Crawford erupted with a triple-double of 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists; Nene added 18 points, 6 assists and 3 steals and Bradley Beal had 17 for Washington, but the Atlanta Hawks winners of 17 of the last 18 games
between the two sides, still found a way to sneak out a win, 100-95 in overtime.
The Wizards are now 3-19 into the season and are just not having anything going their way.
"I look up every morning to make sure the sky is up there, that it's not falling in on me." Wizards coach Randy Wittman said after his team lost yet another close game.
The Hawks were led Lou Williams, who had a season-high 24 points off the bench. Josh Smith posted a 17 points and 13 rebounds double-double with 5 blocks; Kyle Korver had 16 while Jeff Teague added 13 points for the Hawks, who
shot just 37.9 percent from the floor and 6 of 18 from the three point land. The most important of those three’s came in the extra period with 2:08 remaining, when DeShawn Stevenson put Atlanta up by 96-93 and for good.
"Tonight was one of those games where you didn't play well. We didn't play with a lot of energy, so I just wanted to be aggressive any time I had the ball." Lou Williams said while addressing the shooting effort of his team after
the game.
Atlanta got off to a 10-2 start, but going inside the last three minutes of the first quarter, the Wizards had pulled within three, 18-21. Washington finished the first quarter six down, but took a one point lead early in the second
courtesy of a 10-3 run. The Hawks pulled away again midway through the period only to be pegged back by the persistent Wizards, who opened the third with a 7-0 run to take a 53-52 lead.
The third quarter ended with the Hawks holding a three point lead. The teams slugged it out in the fourth quarter, with neither being able to pull away at any stage. Hawks were leading by one with 43.9 seconds remaining but Barron
tied the scores with a deuce. Atlanta had 23 seconds to pull off an offensive play for the win, but Jeff Teague was called for an offensive charge. Crawford had the chance to become a hero for Washington in the closing second, but his shot from distance was
not good.
The Wizards led briefly in O.T. before Stevenson, a former Wizard, found the cup from three point range and iced the game.
