Atlanta Tennis Championship; Andy Roddick knocks down Xavier Malisse
The American tennis ace, Andy Roddick had to fight a gradual beginning before blustering his way into the semi final stage of the Atlanta Tennis tournament against a player he knocked down for the trophy back in 2001.
The American managed to beat Belgian tennis player Xavier Malisse with a final match score as 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a re-release of the final nine years ago which gave the young Andy his very first career ATP trophy.
However, the thirty years old Malisse, made his opponent work for success, grabbing the set number one on the back of a demon seventh game to knock down the top seeded player from Texas.
The American ace prevented a total of five break points and smashed five aces prior to a back hand error tendered to the game. Malisse kept on the motion to take the set however was knocked down for 2-4 in the second one as Andy recovered back to record his ninth win in the decade lengthy series with Xavier.
Roddick took a total of one hundred and twenty minutes to last with a total of seventeen aces.
"My first strategy wasn't paying back well and the game was getting out of my hands," said Roddick. "I choose to make him work for the final 9 or 10 games.
"Nothing came easily in the set number one, however I did my best to get destructive, and I actually wanted to return strongly”.
"He did not play bad at all, however the only thing he did wrong was that he allowed me to come back after playing pretty well. Both of us were equally destructive towards the end of the match”.
The owner of a total of twenty nine trophies including Miami and Brisbane this year, will contest in the final four versus Mardy Fish, a sixth seeded tennis professional who knocked down Taylor Dent in his match with a final score 6-3, 6-0.
In another match John Isner, the grass court Grand Slam marathon man, managed to dismiss Michael Russell 6-1, 6-2.
Isner's victory that came in a time period of fifty eight minutes was nearly ten hours less than grass court Grand Slam marathon match, where he succeeded in the lengthiest ever match in the history of international tennis while playing against Nicolas Mahut.
The second seeded player, who accepted that he was happy to leave the court in a rush, will contest in the semi final against the South African player Kevin Anderson, his ex- university tennis rival who hammered down Lukas Lacko in his match 6-3, 6-4.
Isner commented that after his round number two exit from the grass court Grand Slam tournament, he arrived here without much practice.
"In my view, I played better today as compared to my first battle”, commented the graduate of the University of Georgia, while talking to some of his fanciers after the second match.
“Any how I am aware of the fact that I have to improve and play even better in the upcoming matches in spite of this pathetic heat”.
The heavy hitter smashed a total of eleven aces versus his compatriot fellow on his way to the fourth semi final of the year.
While Isner is fed up of discussing about the grass court Grand Slam match that marked his name in the history books, he commented that he is happy that it is all over now and he can focus on the United States Open Championship beginning from 30th of next month.
