Atlanta Tennis Championship: Andy Roddick won his opening match
Mark as well as Kelly Peterson visited the Atlanta Athletic Club on the day number four of the opening Atlanta Tennis tournaments on the basis of two main reasons.
“In order to celebrate for the fact that the championship is once again back in Atlanta”, Kelly Peterson commented, "and moreover to see our darling player while battling on the courts of tennis, Andy Roddick".
They were anxiously waiting for the American tennis ace, Andy Roddick to enter the court of the stadium in order to contest his very first singles game of the championship, versus Rajeev Ram. After some time, Roddick while carrying a racket bag slowly stepped up. Kelly took several photographs. Mark was wearing a baseball cap of Texas Longhorns where as Andy Roddick resides in Austin, Texas.
"Go and meet him, Andy," Mark commented as Roddick advanced towards the court.
Bill Oakes who is the director of the championship praised Thursday's record as the most star-spangled in the history of Atlanta tennis since the AT&T competition back in 1994 when Mats Wilander, Andre Agassi, Todd Martin as well as Michael Chang were on the courts.
Apart from Roddick, who also was scheduled to participate in doubles on Thursday night along with Mardy Fish before Mardy drew out as a result of his ankle wound, the timetable included John Isner, Georgia grad as well as the most beloved of the spectators James Blake in a doubles contest along with former top ranked tennis ace Lleyton Hewitt.
"It is absolutely a superb day of the championship”, Mark Peterson commented. On the very day Blake as well as Isner triumphed in a total of two sets over Rainer Schuettler and his partner Michael Kohlmann where as Hewitt was knocked down in an upset match by Lukas Lacko 6-4, 6-2. On the other hand, Kevin Anderson won the match over Young with a final match score as 7-5, 6-3.
The celebrity, though, was Andy Roddick. When his match started at 4 pm, the stadium was almost filled with the crowd who came to support the top seeded player of the championship, the ninth ranked player Andy Roddick.
"He is a true American player”, said one of the spectators called Karri Kiss, who was sitting with her husband and a son and who brought camera with a telephoto lens to see Roddick in action.
Roddick, who provided a heavy push to the ticket sales when he received a wild card entry last week, did manage to play well as expected by the crowds and succeeded in the match with a final score as 6-1, 6-7 (1), 6-3.
The fanciers sitting in the grand stands clapped on every single shot that Roddick smashed. They laughed when a serve recorded at a speed of 138 mph embedded itself in the net.
In spite of the fact that Roddick was a bit out of form and playing under the heat, he looked completely all right.
He was on top the game right from the start, and won the very first set in a total of just twenty minutes. Ram also joined the contest after that, grabbing the set number two in a tiebreaker before falling down in the third one.
After the match, Roddick while talking to the reporters on the court said, "I didn't actually notice the heat at all”, Roddick said, while laughing. "It was completely superb".
The outstanding crowd has really amazed me to a great extent, Roddick commented.
"I feel that over the past few years, people have started liking me more after regularly following my game that has of course improved as well. I am not sure about the reason however, they surely don’t perceive me the Roddick I used to be some six or seven years ago”, he added.
