Atlanta Tennis Tournament: John Isner triumphed over Gilles Muller
The marathon man John Isner performed at his very best once again in the second round encounter with Gilles Muller in the Atlanta Tennis tournament yesterday. The second seeded Isner won the match with a final match score as 4-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (7).
“Thank god, I performed pretty well when it was required the most. Moreover, the crowd also supported me a great deal and I am extremely thankful to all of them”, Isner added. “My desire was to meet up the expectations of the crowd. I didn't actually want to perform badly in my very first game here''.
Isner is the man of the marathon match who became extremely popular as he was the winner of the longest tennis match in the history that stretched over a period of three days and a total of one hundred and eighty three games at the grass court Grand Slam tournament this season. The man also advanced to 16-5 in the final set tiebreakers of his career.
He had not participated since falling down in the round number two at the grass court Grand Slam tournament the day after his record victory over the France tennis ace, Nicolas Mahut.
“With Gio as a challenger, he is perhaps one of the last few players I wish to battle with,'' Isner said. “First game versus a heavy serving left handed player, he is definitely not going to provide me any major rhythm. So that was a matter of concern for me, however I simply said to myself just to perform your very best''.
Michael Russell will meet John Isner in the quarterfinal match on Friday.
Towards the set number three of his match with Gio, John Isner did not respond to one of the spectators who screamed, “70-68, man!''
Rather Isner replied with his tennis racket and thus won the next two match points when Gio smashed naughty returns and took the game eventually.
This victory was extremely significant for me,'' commented Isner, who grabbed his very first career ATP tour trophy towards the start of this season in Auckland. “Probably one of the greatest of the season as I wish to get some wins under my belt prior reaching Washington D.C. as well as the two masters series championships and the United States Open tournament.''
In another match, Taylor Dent knocked down the fourth seeded Horacio Zeballos with a final match score as 4-6, 6-2, and 6-0 and thus stepped towards his very first ATP tour quarter final match after a period of five years. This win was his seventh one in a total of twenty matches this season.
Taylor will meet the sixth seeded Mardy Fish, a 6-1, 7-5 victor in his match versus Robby Ginepri.
Zeballos, who was the tour’s most popular starter last year, was fell down by Dent in spite of the fact that Taylor Dent did not serve on consistent basis.
“Unluckily, double-faults have always been a key of my style,'' Dent commented. “I do not mind giving away some extra points, I am rather working extremely hard on my perfection a great deal along with my serving style, you're going to notice a change in my game quite soon''.
Isner, who stands at 23-12 in tiebreakers this season is the championship best and has also managed to upgrade his overall stats with 25-15 overall this season. He is listed number nineteen on the ATP championship in 2010.
While commenting on his match with Gio Isner commented,
“He was definitely targeting his areas pretty well,'' Isner said. “However I am glad that I managed to end up well in the end”.
Hopefully, the American tennis player John Isner will continue his winning momentum in the upcoming matches of the tournament as well.
