Atlanta Thrashers’ captain Andrew Ladd tours Winnipeg before team relocation –NHL offseason Update
It is not final yet, but since Atlanta Thrashers is in the process of being relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Thrashers’ captain, Andrew Ladd, paid a visit to potentially what will become his new home just before any official announcements have
been made.
There is a surety that he will be named as the continuing captain of the team for which he was selected to lead during the 2010-2011 season in mid November.
The 25-year-old from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada, visited the new team management which consisted of the North True Sports and Entertainment staff and newly hired team’s General Manager, Kevin Cheveldayoff, and assistant GM, Craig Heisinger.
During his visit, Ladd toured the team’s new stadium, the MTS Center, and also observed the heritage of the city in general which he found to be very impressive.
"I've been really impressed with the reception so far and their vision on what kind of culture they want to have here and the way they see things going", said Ladd, who also brought along his fiancé and agent.
Ladd was drafted during the 2004 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft as a fourth overall pick in the first round. He has so far played with three teams which include the original drafting team, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks and Atlanta Thrashers.
Since he will become a free agent on the 1st of July, the team’s management is keen to sign him to a new contract because of the potential he carries under his belt. At such a young age, Ladd has already won the Stanley Cup twice, once with Hurricanes
in 2006 and most recently with Blackhawks in 2010.
Ladd has a firm belief in his team which finished 12th in the Eastern Conference but he believes a new slate will give them a better run next time.
"The group of guys is still the same, and I really enjoyed playing with them last year and I want to continue to be a leader with this group", Ladd said.
All the pieces are falling into place for the young superstar who has also planned to get married in July along with joining a great team in a new city with a fresh start.
