Atlanta Thrashers comes up with an important 1-0 shutout win over Philadelphia Flyers
One of the important games of Thursday was Philadelphia Flyers playing host to Atlanta Thrashers at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia which saw Thrashers winning by 1-0 in the end.
Flyers needed the win to keep distance between themselves and Capitals in the Conference since it is looking to grab the Conference title.
Thrashers, on the other hand, needed the win which would draw it closer to the eighth positioned New York Rangers.
The game kicked off with both teams coming up with a tight defence early on that didn’t allow any goals but Flyers got better with the passage of time.
Flyers was able to make quite a few shots on goal but it couldn’t score any goals.
The second period followed the same roads with Flyers coming up with a lot more shots on goal than Thrashers.
The final 20 minutes saw Flyers totally dominating the offensive department but despite this, Thrashers scored the lone goal of the period and game to win by 1-0 in the end.
Chris Mason, Thrashers’ goalie was named the star of the game as he made 43 saves.
There weren’t as many shots on goal as expected given the strong offence of both teams. There were chances for both teams to score goals but they wasted some very easy ones. The period saw both teams creating several scoring chances but they were unable
to convert them into goals.
Despite the several shots on goal the period ended with the scores level on 0-0. During the course of the period, Flyers made 10 shots on goal while Thrashers made six shots on goal.
The second period began with both teams reluctant to go on attack once again though they had ample amount of space. They weren’t able to use this to their advantage and the period ended with no goals once again.
The period ended with the scores level on 0-0 with Flyers making 14 shots on goal while Thrashers made eight shots on goal.
Flyers was the dominating force in the final period as it was on the attack right from the start and was looking to score. It had several chances to score early on in the period but the chances came and went without any change in the score.
However, Thrashers took advantage from a chance in the 11th minute which saw it scoring through Nik Antropov’s decent strike.
The period saw Flyers being the dominant force in the remaining part of the period and coming up with shots every now and then.
The period and the game ended with Thrashers winning 1-0 in the end, Flyers making 19 shots on goal while Thrashers making eight shots.
