Atlanta Thrashers host the New York Rangers in their third meeting this season
Atlanta Thrashers will be hosting the New York Rangers this Friday as the teams square off against each for the third time in the season. Out of the two meetings that have already taken place, both teams have won a game apiece with Atlanta Thrashers winning
the first 6-4 and New York Rangers winning the second 3-2 after an intense battle in shootout.
The last meeting between the two sides took place at the Philips Arena where New York Rangers came up with a very strong performance to win the game in overtime despite trailing 2-1. Not only this, but some their key players in Dan Girardi and Brandon Prust
also got themselves injured and made the Rangers a little weak.
However, this didn’t seem to affect them as the Rangers marched with Mats Zuccarello scoring the only goal in shootout to win the game for the Thrashers in the end.
Both teams are going through a poor run in the league. Thrashers are in ninth position in the Eastern Conference while the Rangers are in the seventh spot but a little slip up could result in the either team’s chances of making it to the play-off end. Things
aren’t looking that good for the Thrashers are four points behind of the Rangers and considering that they would be facing their Conference teams in their next two games leaves them with no chance of any slip up.
Atlanta Thrashers are confidence ahead of the game even though they have won only four out of their last 21 games. But they have been able to raise their game in the last three games they have played. Constantly working hard, the Thrashers scored twice during
power play which is something they haven’t been able to do which pleased their Coach.
"I think we can make the playoffs," Ramsay said. "I really do. That 'Expect to Win' thing is true. We went in to the last couple of games and we didn't win, but we played to win. We didn't play to tie. We didn't play to stay close. We don't want to play
close and hope we win. We are going out there expecting to win. We are going out there playing to win."
Thrashers and Rangers have both played 56 games in the season so far. Thrashers have won 24 games in regulation time, 10 games in overtime and scored 58 points. On the other hand, New York Rangers have won 29 games in regulation time, 4 games in overtime
and scored 62 points.
New York Rangers wasn’t expected to maintain a record 0-4-1 at this stage of the season. Unfortunately, this has happened but still the Rangers are hopefully of the fact that they would make it into the play-offs and the hard work they have put in would
surely pay off later on if not now.
"I think we've done some really good things in the games we've lost," coach John Tortorella told the Post. "You can keep on going back to that, but you have to win a game. They know where we're at. They know what's at stake. I trust them that they know how
to get out of this."
The game will be very tough and score is going to be tight with both teams having equal chances of winning the game.
