Atlanta Thrashers lose fifth game as Florida Panthers win 2-1

Another one of the important games of Friday was played at the Philips Arena as the home team Atlanta Thrashers was up against the Florida Panthers. The game was very crucial as both teams are pretty much close and have chances of making it into the play-off
cut.
The Thrashers dominated the opening period in terms of goal attempts but the Panthers scored the only goal during the period. The second period saw the Thrashers levelling the scores. The regulation time ended with the scores level and took the game into
overtime. No goals were scored during overtime but Panthers managed to edge out in shootout to win the game 2-1 in the end. Steve Bernier, defenceman of the Thrashers was named the star selection for scoring the winning goal during shootout.
The home team made a decent start and worked hard right from the word go. There were several occasions where they lost possession and were caught on the counter attacks. However, the defence was up to mark as they cut down any such developing attacks.
The Thrashers fans were fully behind them and with the passage of time they got better and better. The attacks started to intensify but it was the Panther who scored in the 8th minute through Marty Reasoner’s quick fired shot that caught the goal
keeper by surprise to get into the lead. The Thrashers continued to fire shots on goal with the Panthers making a few shots on goal too.
However, the period ended with the Panthers leading 1-0 with the Thrashers being the strong being the stronger of the two teams when it came to the play construction. During the period, the Thrashers made 13 goal attempts while the Panthers came up with
seven goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams catching pace with the passage of time which resulted in numerous goal attempts during the course of the entire period. Both teams had the share of the scoring chance right from the start of the proceedings but they weren’t
able to score.
It looked as if the period would end goalless when finally the Thrashers scored in the 18th minute through Blake Wheeler from a brilliant flick shot to level the scores. There were several more goal attempts made by both teams but none found the
back of the period.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with both teams making 14 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The final period saw the Thrashers and the Panthers both coming out strong and attacking and creating chances for themselves through some brilliant work in the middle. The defence of both teams was decent but they failed to bag any goals during the 20 minutes
of play.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1. The final period saw the Panthers making nine goal attempts while the Thrashers made 14 goal attempts. The game went into overtime but no goals were scored there. The shootout was very entertaining as Panthers
emerged as 2-1 winners from there.
