Atlanta Thrashers wins 3-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes as they chase a spot in the playoffs 
The second game of Wednesday was played at the RBC Center as the Carolina Hurricanes played host to the Atlanta Thrashers.
The game was important for both teams as they looked to make their way into the play-off cut and then cement their position there.
The game started off with the Thrashers making a strong start which saw them scoring early and leading 2-0 at the end of the first period.
However, the Thrashers were able to find their way back into the game scoring in each of the last two periods to level the scores as the regulation time ended.
The game went into overtime as a result where the Thrashers scored to win the game 3-2 in the end.
Ondrej Pavelec, goal keeper of the Thrashers, was named the star of the game as he made 35 saves during the course of the game.
Thrashers made a fabulous start to the game and attacked right from the start. This resulted in the Thrashers scoring in the fourth minute through Rob Schremp during power play to get into the lead.
Hurricanes responded to this with some strong pieces of play. Their passing and shooting were both very strong.
However, unlike their counterparts, they weren’t able to find the back of the net. Things heated up with the passage of time and it looked as if a goal would be scored.
It was the Thrashers who scored once again in the 14th minute through Tobias Enstrom from a quick fired shot to double their lead.
The period saw both teams making a few more shots on goal but no goals were scored.
The period ended with the Thrashers leading 2-0 as they made 8 shot on goal during the period while the Hurricanes made 10 shots on goal.
The second period started off with the Thrashers making a decent start but it was the Hurricanes who displayed some excellent skill while combing together. Their passing and shooting got better with the passage of time.
Finally, the Hurricanes scored in the 12th minute through Troy Bodie from a quick fired shot that found the back of the net to leave the Hurricanes trailing by a single goal.
The period saw both teams making shots on goal out which the Hurricanes were the more dominating.
However, no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Thrashers leading 2-1.
During the period the Thrashers made 11 shots on goal while the Hurricanes made 13 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play were a mere reflection of the second period. In fact, it was the Hurricanes who scored the only goal of the period once again through Erik Cole from a decent flick shot.
The period ended with the Hurricanes making 13 shots on goal while the Thrashers made just four shots on goal.
The scores were level on 3-3 which took the game into overtime where it was the Thrashers who scored through Tim Stapleton from a simple tip in shot to win the game 4-3.
