Atlanta Thrashers wins 3-2 against the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime
Another one of exciting games of Sunday was hosted by the Atlanta Thrashers at the Philips Arena as they were against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Both teams are within four points of the final play-off position and win would boost their chances finishing in a strong position.
However, it was the Maple Leafs who took the early lead scoring twice in the first period. The second period didn’t see any goals.
The final period saw the Thrashers scoring twice to level the scores and the game went overtime where the Thrashers scored to win the game 3-2 in the end.
Ron Hainsey was named the player of the game for scoring a goal and doing good work in defence.
The Maple Leafs was in top form and they showed this with the early domination that saw them keeping possession for quite some time. There were some excellent pieces of play constructed by the Maple Leafs.
They away side did the important thing, which was to score. They scored in the 7th minute through Nikolai Kulemin through a brilliant backhand shot to get into the lead. The Maple Leafs continued with the dominance and chances kept on coming their
way.
It didn’t too long as they doubled the lead with another goal in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Phil Kessel from a well placed flick shot. The Maple Leafs gave the Thrashers some breathing space after this which resulted in the Thrashers
coming up with a quite a few goal attempts.
However, no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Maple Leafs leading 2-0. During the period, the Maple Leafs made 12 goal attempts while the Thrashers made 11 goal attempts.
