Atlanta Thrashers wins 4-3 against Philadelphia Flyers after a shootout following a goalless overtime
The first game of Thursday was played at the Philips Arena as the home team, Atlanta Thrashers, played host to Philadelphia Flyers.
Thrashers needed the win if they wanted to make their way into the playoff cut while Flyers were looking to win to end their inconsistent run.
Thrashers scored the first goal of the game after which Flyers scored to level the scores. However, Thrashers managed to get back into the lead once again, but Flyers managed to score once again to level the scores, followed by Thrashers scoring once again
at the end to get into the lead again.
Flyers managed to score the lone goal of the final period to level the scores on 3-3.
No goals were scored in overtime but Thrashers outscored Flyers in the shootout to win the game by 4-3 in the end.
Ron Hainsey of Thrashers was named the star of the game as he came up with two assists during the game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game which saw the constructing some brilliant plays during the early stages of the game.
Thrashers were stronger of the two teams at the start of the proceedings and they managed to score in the 7th minute to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Tim Stapleton from a quick fired shot that went into the back of the net in an instant.
Flyers got better with the passage of time and eventually scored in the 10th minute to level the scores.
The goal was scored by Claude Giroux from a well placed flick shots. There were a couple of shots on goal but the period ended with the scores level on 1-1.
During the course of the period, Thrashers made 8 shots on goal while Flyers made 5 shots on goal.
The second period saw Thrashers continuing on the dominating roads as they constructed plays and their passing was superb at the start. This resulted in the home team scoring once again in the fifth minute to get back into the lead.
The goal was scored by Bryan Little from a backhand shot.
Flyers successfully scored in the 15th minute to level the scored through Danny Briere but Thrashers scored in the 18th minute through Nik Antropov to lead 3-2 as the period ended.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Flyers totally dominating the game offensively as the created chances and fired a total 11 shots on goal during the period.
On the other hand, Flyers’ defence restricted Thrashers to only 3 shots on goal during the period. Flyers scored the only goal of the period to draw the scores level.
The goal was scored by Briere once again from a brilliant backhand shot.
The scores were level on 3-3 at the end of regulation time which saw the game going into overtime where no goals were scored, but Thrashers managed to win the game by 4-3 after the shootout.
