Atletico Madrid 2011 - A summer of exodus – La Liga debate
The end of 2010/11 La Liga season has started an exit from Atletico Madrid. Tomas Ujfalusi has left for pastures new, while goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-de-Gea-c10463 completes his mega-million pound deal away from Vicente Calderon. The flight away from the club is set to
continue as players pack their bags and decide to leave.
Galatasaray completed the signing of former the Czech international, Ujfalusi, for a reported 2 million Euros. The player has signed a two-year deal with the Turkish giants worth a staggering 2.2 million Euros a year. He joins compatriot Milan Baros at the
club.
David de Gea also completed his move away from the club to English giants, Manchester United. The Red Devils will pay around 18 million pounds for the signature of the talented Spaniard. De Gea has signed a five-year deal at the club and joins Danish international
goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anders-Lindegaard-c5553, at the club.
Ujfalusi and De Gea are set to be followed by Argentine international, Sergio Aguero, who has been at the club since his multi-million pound signing from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Independiente-c39561 in 2006, but revealed in the 2010/11 La Liga post-season that he wishes to leave. A move
away from the club is expected as Atletico Madrid undergo a rebuilding process and will not be challenging for trophies.
Aguero’s name has been linked to Europe’s elite clubs including Juventus, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Maradona’s son-in-law.
The deal with Juventus is probable as Aguero decides to move. However, there is a strong likelihood that the player might stay. The manager, Gregorio Manzano, has stated that negotiations for the want-away striker will only continue until July 4. In an interview
to AS, he said, "Until July 4, when our preseason starts, we are able to negotiate for Aguero. After this date, clubs that want to take him away will have to pay the recessionary clause."
Aguero’s strike partner, Diego Forlan, has also been linked away from the club. The Uruguayan is available for a transfer as Atletico want to cash in on the striker. Tottenham Hotspur has been linked with a 7 million pound bid. The north-London side are
long time admirers of the striker and should finally get his signature.
The future of Jose Antonio Reyes seemed away from the club as Galatasaray have enquired about his availability. The Spanish forward was set to follow in the footsteps of outgoing Tomas Ujfalusi, but the advances of Turkish giants were turned down.
The club issued a statement that, "After the meeting which the player had on Tuesday in Seville with his agent, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 director, Jose Luis Perez Caminero, all parties have agreed to decline the offer of Galatasaray, so
the player will remain part of Atletico Madrid's first squad for the next season."
As players leave Vicente Calderon for new adventures, the club is set to undergo a period of change. In Gregorio Manzano, they have a manager who has managerial experience all over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011. He has overseen the rebuilding process before, and the boardroom
has an able person to rely upon. The club have to act proactively if they want to ensure there is no drop in quality in the roster. They have signed Portuguese defender Silvio from Braga for 8 million Euros and more will surely follow.
