Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has stated that Los Rojiblancos are following Diego Simeone after the dismissal of Gregorio Manzano.
Manzano was relieved of his responsibilities as the Atletico manager after yet another unimpressive performance that saw them crash out of Copa del Rey.
The embarrassing defeat at the hands of Albacete at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 Calderon in the cup competition sealed Manzano’s fate, prompting Atletico to reveal their decision on the club's official website.
"The Executive Committee of Atletico Madrid, meeting today to discuss the sporting situation, unanimously decided to dismiss Gregorio Manzano as first team coach.
"This decision has been communicated to the technician, with whom we reached an agreement for the termination of his contract.
"Atletico Madrid thanks Gregorio Manzano for the work done and wishes him well for the future."
In the wake of Manzano’s dismissal, Atletico Madrid president gave his strongest indication that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Simeone will take over the reins at the beleaguered club.
Speaking at a press conference, the Atletico supremo acknowledged that they have offered the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 to the former player, with a deal to be brokered in the coming days.
Cerezo stated that all the board members are behind his hiring, in addition to the current http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-Club-c40301 manager showing his ambition to take control of the Madrid club.
"He is the one we all want here. He would love to come," the president told reporters.
The president stated that they are in contact with Diego, and will begin negotiations in the coming days. He reflected that a decision will be made between Thursday and Friday.
Simeone will take control of an Atletico Madrid team desperately in need of motivation to salvage their season. The club has been performing woefully below par this term, with the 9 time La Liga champions in the bottom half of the table after 16 weeks of
league action.
In addition to their poor form in Primera Division, Los Rojiblancos have been knocked out of Copa del Rey by the lowly Albacete.
Their performance in UEFA Europa League, though, stands out. The capital club cruised through the group stages into the last 32 of the Europa League.
