Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo confirms the interest in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 star Radamel Falcao
Atletico Madrid Supremo, Enrique Cerezo, has confirmed reports that his side were eyeing FC Porto’s Radamel Falcao but revealed they would not pay €45 million price tag to secure his services.
The Columbian forward has been linked with a move to Europe’s elite all summer but the only club now left interested in him are Atletico Madrid.
Los Colchoneros have been credited with interest in the highly-rated front man following the sale of Sergio Aguero to Manchester City. The Argentine had been the inspiration for the Madrid outfit in recent seasons and alongside veteran attacker, Diego Forlan,
formed the partnership that hauled the club to glory in the inaugural UEFA Europa League.
Aguero was far too talented to ply his trade with the lowly placed Atletico and in order to further his career, engineered a €35.6 million move to Eastlands.
With the funds generated from his transfer, the Mattress Makers had been in the market searching for a predatory finisher with good all round play. Falcao fitted the bill perfectly and had shown that not only could he find the back of the net regularly,
he could also be relied upon to start play for his side.
While the Spanish club had been ready to pounce on the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/River-Plate-c40368 man, Porto had other ideas and their president Nuno Pinto da Costa laughed off claims that his star forward could be on his way to Vicente Calderon.
Talking to reporters, Da Costa said that Atletico would not be able to afford Falcao in the first place and later revealed that he had not received any offer from them.
"If any club were to pay for him, they would have done it already and there are not many clubs who spend that kind of money on one player.
"And when I read about Atletico Madrid's interest, I can only laugh," the Dragao official was quoted as saying.
Although this seemed to put an end to reports linking the 25-year-old with a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo reignited the fuse by saying that his side had targeted the Columbian and were going to sign him despite their inability to cough
the total amount for the player.
"Falcao is an objective of ours," "What I can say is that Atletico Madrid want a great player and Falcao is a great player.
"Right now, we are trying to sign a great player, a marquee signing but "€45m is still a lot of money,” Cerezo concluded.
With the potential suitors, Atletico Madrid looking to snap up the prolific striker and FC Porto determined not to let him go, the transfer saga of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Radamel-Falcao-c30276 looks to take yet another turn.
