The Colombian came to the spot lights after Atletico Madrid signed him from the Portuguese side, Porto for a fee of around 40million in the summer of 2011.
Falcao is the new star on the radars of all the big teams in Europe. Since his arrival to the other side of the city of Madrid, he has proven his doubters wrong and has surely
showed his worth to the club.
He instantly became a hit at his new club and although they didn’t do well domestically, Atletico won the Europa cup with the help of Falcao who scored an astounding 29 goals in the competition.
He single-handedly won the UEFA Europa League for Atletico, scoring two superb goals in the final game against Bucharest which he said made his dream come true.
“I don’t know what to say, this is just a dream come true which is to win this cup with two different clubs”. Those who thought going to La liga was the wrong move for Falcao also got their
response: “When I decided to go to Spain many people said that was a bad move- tonight shows that I was not mistaken”.
He continued his feel for the big games as he again scored four goals against the reigning Champions league defenders, Chelsea, in the European Super cup final, winning another trophy for his
team.
His appetite for goals and sudden influence in the team has already made Atletico a one-man’s team.
His sudden success at the club has also prompted to generate interest from the big teams in Europe.
There are rumours that English sides, Chelsea and Manchester City, are looking for his services. There was also some speculation that he is going to move to the team that is established in the
other side of the city, that is Real Madrid, the team that has cast its shadow on Atletico for many years.
At the moment, it seems that Falcao is just happy at Atletico and is solely concentrating on playing. He dismissed all the talks that he is going to leave the club and labelled all news as rumours.
"My dream is to continue playing for this club and win as much trophies with them as possible", said the striker.
The same rhetoric is also concurred by the president of the club, Erique Cerezo. "We are not bothered by some of the comments of Falcao’s family members that he is going to leave the team soon."
All this interest in Falcao is not farfetched and does not really come as a surprise since he is truly a gifted player and a world star that has a thing for scoring goals. He is simply a goal
scoring machine and that makes him a target and magnet for all the big spenders out there.
The fact is that Falcao is the main man and the whole team depends on him. He is the one pulling all the strings at the moment and the fact that the club is financially struggling and that there
is a buyout clause for their lead man doesn’t help the situation of Atletico.
Everyone is now betting for Falcao to make his move when the transfer window opens in January. Surely that will be a huge loss for Atletico as they are now totally dependent on his services.
