Atletico Madrid vs. Real Zaragoza – Spanish Primera Division – Full Time Report – (Part 1)
The match started off with Atletico Madrid playing their first side. The Europa Cup winners of last season, Atletico Madrid presented their first team line up, however the player who managed to injure Lionel Messi during the match against Barcelona was still
out because of the two match ban that he received.
The atmosphere was simply outstanding as both of the teams came on the field to face each other in a "thrilling" match. Atletico Madrid were to entertain Real Zaragoza as David De Gea took his position between the two poles and attended to his team as a
"goal stopper."
The four defenders that were to help him out at the back were Alvaro Dominguez, who was replacing the player who managed to injure Barcelona's footballing sensation, Lionel Messi. With Ugfalusi Alvaro Dominguez took his place at the right back position.
Luis Amaranto Pera and Kasmirski Filipe Luis were the two centre backs for the Madrid side while Diego Godin featured as a left back. Atletico Madrid were playing a usual 4-4-2 formation and the four players that featured in the midfield were Cardoso Tiago,
Silva Paulo Assuncao, Jose Antonio Reyes and Sabrosa Simao.
There two strikers were Silva Diego Costa along with the FIFA World Cup 2010 golden ball winner Diego Forlan. Sergio Kun Aguero was out of action for the Spanish side because of the injury that he suffered during the match against Barcelona. Moreover, the
Argentinean was rested for the match that they are going to play against the European teams for the Europa Cup group stages. However, he did make it to the bench and it was expected that Diego Armando Maradona's "son in law" was to feature later on in the
match.
On the other hand Real Zaragoza presented themselves with a strong side as well. Leo Franco was the goalkeeper who stood between the two poles to defend the goals for his team. The four players that helped him out at the back were Jiri Jarosik, Ivan Obradovic,
Matteo Contini and Maurizio Lanzaro. These four combined at the back near the 18 yard box as the match started off. The visitors also played a typical 4-4-2 side and the four midfielders that featured for Real Zaragoza were Herrera Ander, Fernandez Gabi, Leonardo
Ponzio and La Cruz Kevin. Angel Lafita and Marco Perez were the two strikers for the visiting side.
The match started off and the home side won an early corner during the first minute. It was the Portuguese player Simao who took the right footed set piece but nothing could be done about the "poor ball" that he delivered and it was simply caught by Franco.
The home team was trying to take advantage of the home ground and the home crowd as they kept on moving the ball around and kept on trying on goal. However, the visitors' defences were not weak and it was hard for the Madrid side to penetrate through the "hard"
defensive lines of Zaragoza.
Atletico Madrid won another corner during the 5th minute of the game and it was Reyes who took the set piece this time and nothing "positive" came out of it and Atletico Madrid players returned to their players after the save was made.
Even though Atletico Madrid kept on trying on goal, it was hard for them to pass through Real Zaragoza's defence but the "best" moment came during the 17th minute when Leonardo Ponzio got a yellow card for tackling Simao. Filipe Luis' free kick
found Diego Costa's feet right in front of the goal and the Atletico Madrid player made no mistake in converting it into a goal. Atletico Madrid took the lead early in the 19th minute as the visitors were a goal down a bit "too early" into the game.
